For some objects a reflection can take away from the photo because it covers interesting details of the object (Think Alnitak in the Horsehead Nebula). Its a joy to work with every time. An h-alpha filter would still be useful for your D500, but much more so if it were modified! Prime lenses are typically lighter as they do not need the additional glass and mechanics required to zoom at varying magnifications.
